where do you source your suet tallow?
we source our 100% grass-fed and finished suet directly from small local regenerative farms that go above and beyond "certified organic" standards. read all about our tallow, here.
what are your rendering practices?
our tallow is always traditionally dry-rendered, unrefined (never introducing water or salt), leaving it in it's most nutrient-rich, natural state. we gently dry-render the suet by hand in stainless steel and store it in glass. read more about why we don't refine our tallow, here.
what makes drift different from other tallow skincare brands?
our rigorous sourcing and rendering practices are at the forefront of what sets us apart, read more about them, here. many tallow skincare makers buy their tallow pre-rendered, stored in large plastic tubs, sourced from questionable, untraceable sources.
our tallow is unrefined. many brands refine or “purify” their tallow which strips it of nutrients and introduces water, potentially causing bacterial and mold growth.
we do not use essential oils. our products are infused with organic herbs and plants.
do you use essential oils?
no, instead, we infuse the tallow in our lightly "scented" products with organic herbs and plants over several days. infusions are gentle, but incredibly effective. plant extracts capture all of the goodness of the plant, and none of the bad.
essential oils are volatile, by definition. because of the highly concentrated volatile chemical compounds found in essential oils, they've been known to cause dermatitis, rashes, burns, allergic reactions, photosensitivity, and further irritate inflamed skin conditions like eczema and acne. some eo's have even been found to contain estrogen-mimicking chemicals. not to mention the massive amount of plants that are required to product just a small amount of eo's - they're simply not a sustainable option.
are your tallow balms whipped?
no, our tallow balms are not whipped. whipping introduces air, giving a false sense of volume and making it more susceptible to deflating if melted in transit.
what is your return policy?
read our refund policy, here.
my tallow balm has a slight texture. is this normal?
some batches of tallow balms can develop a slight texture after jarring. this is normal, and we’ve even chatted with larger brands, who use tallow, about this - the consensus is that this is the nature of tallow, a natural product, and can happen as it hardens, or due to temperature changes in transit or after delivery, and other various factors. our products are 100% natural, handmade in small batches, and contain no preservatives. although we always aim for a smooth, creamy texture, slight variation is a sign of a natural integrity and does not affect the benefits or quality of the product. simply warm up the balm in your hands to dissolve before applying.
